x11-x13-ubuntu-image-darkcoin-boostcoin-x11coin

For those of you who want to mine X11 or X13-based altcoins like Darkcoin, X11coin, Boostcoin, Digitcoin, Marucoin, etc…etc…, here’s an updated image with the latest modded sgminer (the one with higher hashrates).  This is built on top of my previous Scrypt/Scrypt-N image, so it’s all straight-forward if you have been using it so far.

With this new image, you will be able to do 3Mh/s with X11 and 2.5Mh/s with X13 on R9 280X graphic card.  (And more or less depending on which graphic card you use.  E.g. R9 290X will obviously have higher hashrates.  You can use on any AMD graphic cards yes.)

First, download the latest X11/X13 image and follow Steps 1 thru 3 here.  For Step 1, use the new X11/X13 image!!!

Download HighOnAndroid Scrypt/Scrypt-N/X11/X13 Ubuntu Image

Step A. You can type “nano /home/litecoin/sgminer/sgminer.conf” to edit the sgminer configuration files, you will be able to change the pool info to yours.

To run X11, make sure kernel settings is like this:

“kernel”: “x11mod”,

To run X13, make sure kernel settings is like this:

“kernel”: “x13mod”,

Save when done.

Step B. To start the cgminer, simply type, “sh testdark.sh”.  If you see “FAILED!”, it means it’s successful. (Sorry I forgot to edit that part while writing the script.)  This will run cgminer in the background.

Step C. To actually see cgminer running, type “cgm”.  To get out of it, press Ctrl + a + d.  If you want to quit cgminer, type “q” instead.

Step C. Once you get everything working great, you can enable auto-start script, which will start cgminer automatically upon boot, power-failure, lock-up, etc…etc…

Type “nano /etc/cron.d/saupdate” and remove the “#” from the this line and save:

#*/4 * * * * root sh /home/litecoin/testdark.sh

I’ve also included some extra code you can comment out to restart your machine at a certain time of the day or every couple hours.  This is a good idea since your graphic cards may go down sometimes, I usually reboot my rigs at least once a day and if the rig has more problems, every 3 hours.

Once that’s done, cron job will automatically check every 4 minute for cgminer and start it if its not running.

If you want to run Scrypt or Scrypt-N, see Steps 4 thru 7 here.

If you want to know how I built this image, see here.

That’s it!  I hope you guys get some good run on X11 and X13 coins.

As a final note, making money with cryptocurrency these days don’t depend on the hottest coin “right now” but rather mining new altcoins when they launch.  Most new altcoins now have PoW (Proof-of-Work), which is mining with rigs, followed by PoS (Proof-of-Stake), which is holding coins in your wallet and getting paid with interest.  This also effectively removes any new ASICs having a drastic impact on the graphic miners.

Currently, I am mining Boostcoins, which is an X13 algorithm and PoW mining is almost done so when that is done, I will be mining new coins that launch.  It makes no sense nor is it profitable to mine any coins that have been out for awhile.

Coin hopping?  Yes, that is probably the only way to make money these days.  The good part?  Whoever still has massive amounts of graphic card rig hashing power will be the only miners left in the end.  DO NOT BUY ASICs, ROI on those things are horrible!  At least your graphic card rig hold market value because you can resell it for at least 75%  of what you paid for or even just part out and sell the graphic cards, which hold value unlike ASICs.

I’ve spent $25K on Gridseeds and Gridseed Blades, now those ASICS I bought only 2 months ago are worth less than $5K.  I am so mad I did that, don’t be like me, keep your graphic card rig running!!!  ASICs are out there to make money for companies who sell the ASICs, don’t be fooled into the biggest scam of all.  And yes, I am STILL waiting for my BFL 300Gh/s Bitcoin rig I ordered back in December 2013 that I paid $3000.  The company has no updates whatsoever, I hope they go bankrupt soon and spend the rest of their life in JAIL, seriously.  FU*K THEM.

Yeah take a look at every scrypt coin at http://CoinMarketCap.com, ASIC have literally flooded the market with useless hashrates, they have all gone down and not coming back up, graphic card rigs are the only profitable rigs left so long as you mine the newest X11/X13 altcoins when they are launched, Right now is X13coin so better get on it if you have graphic rig.

No it does not. You need to compile ccminer for ubuntu, which is time-consuming and I haven’t got it to work.

I still need to get my ROI lol … I have 5 x Gigabyte R9 280X, I think I will be trying to mine X11 coins, I don’t like the Scrypt-N ones though.
GPU mining will be obsolete until someone comes out with an ASIC for X11/X13 algorithm, before that happens, I will mine the heck out my GPUs lol 😀

Mine new coins, only mine new coins, I am mining Honorcoin and Mugatucoin, which are pretty profitable.

By the way, I forgot to ask, will you be using the same amount of watts like if you are mining scrypt?
    I was consuming 1600W (approx) with 5 x R9 280X cards.

I’ve done that before, you have to reset the BIOS or change a setting to make it work but I forget what exactly I did. But the thumb drive is fine if you get that error, you have to fix the BIOS to recognize it.

Yo I got it to work. Im trying the scrypt mode right now, and I get Error -4 enqueueing kernal onto command queue, and then the gpus’ fail and disable.

simply uncommenting the third line and saving does not work. cg miner does not run on startup.
missing sudo from your command in the tutorial also

It does run, you have to give it couple minutes, it does not start right away on startup.

found out it does start after a couple minutes but cgm shows:
        [20:16:01] Started sgminer
        and nothing else

from my experience it randomly fails to start about half the time. no problem starting it manually

That sounds like you have to find more stable settings. It happens on some of my older rigs so I adjust the engine and memclock much lower until it runs stable.

What does it mean if my rig is running for about 30 mins then all of a sudden it freezes? and this is the x13 mod.

      Hi Max,
I’ve got a question for you. I’ve got a problem with that image you’ve sent. The image is (only) 60MB bigger than my flash drive’s capacity (wich is newly bought form store – 8GB). Is there any way to make this image to loose its “weight”? Can you help me with that issue? Any program suggestions?
      Regards, Mark

Funny.. I had the same problem lol I bought a 8GB flash drive and image was just a bit bigger… I just used a 16GB flash drive instead :/

I ‘m having some issues when I try to modify/Save the auto-run scripts that you made, I get “Error writing /etc/cron.d/saupdate: Permission denied” , any idea what is the problem?

    Thanks!

    Hello,
When i put the USB (with the image) into my miner it automatically boots that version of ubuntu instead of giving me an option to install it. It runs fine from the USB until i start the miner and everything goes black. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you for all your hard work.

Hey, is this image supposed to work if I have 3 different GPUs? I was able to get it to work when I have just 1 GPU plugged in, now with all 3 I’m not getting it to work with the other 2 GPUs.

    Thanks!

Hey Max, Loving your videos and that tobasco looks pretty hot ! I have just started assembling 2 gpu rigs and want to start dark coin and x11 x13 mining. What should I get in the way of a wallet that I can exchange money into an overseas account or paypal ? What is safe and accepts all coins or do i need a wallet for every coin ? I plan on running your ubuntu mining image so hopefully I am up and running in the next day or 2… excite about getting… HIGH on COINS.

    R9 280X x 5 times 2 🙂 to start with 🙂

I keep timing out a couple of hours after starting your image downloads. The fastest speed I can get is like 5k/s, so it always starts downloading then says it will be complete in 20 hours odd. Is it not possible to torrent them or put them on a faster download site? I only have this speed problem on your downloads, not sure if the place you host them has a speed limit or something 🙁

I have hit a snag with my GPU mining rig. I have done every thing step by step. My card is recognized and running but when I want to see cgm running it just says started cgminer or sgminer and just hangs there. I have tried adjusting the engine and memclock settings pretty low and that doesn’t work either. I appreciate the help Max!

    1. roy176

try taking engine and memclock settings right out. what i do when cgminer hangs like that is feel the cards to see which ones are warm, you can usually tell which cards are connected by this then troubleshoot from there

Hmm, I switched to f7 window then back to tty1 and cgm is running fine. Any ideas why it does that? Also I noticed my card is running really slow 1 khs. I already changed the engine and memclock settings back high.

    Hey,
Other people on windows machines are getting better hash rates on X11 with the latest catalyst drivers….do you have a tutorial on how to update the ones on this image? I am only getting 2.5MH per R9-280 using your image, and my friend on his windows machine is pulling 3.8MH per card.
Is there a way to upgrade because I dont want to download the image the whole time its soooooooo slow.

Yes with 14.6 drivers your x11-x15 hashrate will increase up to 50% and nist5 gets over 100% higher hashrate. Simplest solution, sorry Max, lol is use PiMP you can download the 1.03gb img file and it has the everything ready to go and is so small of an img file writing it to a 4gb flash drive takes only a few mins. Again sorry Max but I HIGHLY recommend using PiMP you can get it at http://www.getpimp.org it has the new drivers and every algorithms miner prepared ready to go its great for Linus NOOBs like me but also incredibly fast and stable

I could never get PIMP up and running stable. Maybe its time to give it another try. ill just load it on a spare usb and pop it in, so convenient

Yup, id recommend using a SanDisk brand usb flash drive I’ve tried other flash drives and a SanDisk drive will help with speed/stability. you only need a 4gb usb to run PiMP and it comes ready to roll with all the new algorithms miners/kernels pre-loaded and configured. the first time you boot your rig into PiMP it will immediately start mining you can either reconfigure which miner you want to use from their gui or just do it old school and start your miner from a terminal.

PIMP is stupid easy to setup. R9 280x x13 hashrate went from 2.4 to 2.7 cards also run cooler except for one than simply refuses and stays at the previous temperature

LoL I only scrolled down to where I saw the line, obviously taken outta context, where your were saying how stupid easy PiMP is and for a brief second till I scrolled down thought you were saying PiMP is stupid LoL But Your Correct PuMP is basically dummy proof it also gives options that are helpful unlike BaMT who’s programmers actually added too many pointless options its so easy to mess up with BaMT while the creators of PiMP followed the golden rule “K.I.S.S” Keep It Simple Stupid 🙂 There are a few things to watch for if your rig has 7 cards pimp will detect all 7 however gives me a segment fault error if I try to run all 7 on one rig so it could just be my motherboard Im using 3 pci to pcie1x adapters with 1x to 16x usb risers which all workfantastic hashrate as if the but a motherboard with 7pcie slots supposedly PiMP can run 7 GPUs I think the fact I had 3 using regular pci slots with pcie1x converters may have caused the fault but I have 5 rigs running 26 270x’s to 280x’s and PiMP keeps me organized and stable. I found any instability that is causing your rig to hang can be fixed by lowering your gpu engine that will solve most all stability options and if you have any gpus like the msi 270x that have a small black toggle switch on top you can attempt to undervolt your cards and if your unsure about how exactly to do it that if you mess up and brick your gpu just flip that toggle switch back and your gpu bios will be restored un-bricking your gpu. I recently learned how to undervolt and it knocks about 50watts of power off per card for the same hashrate I just wish I had known or tried to figure out how to undervolt months and months ago oh well 20/20 hindsight like my 150 URO coins I mined during PoW and sold for a penny a piece than a week later they were up to $12 a piece smdh lol but back to the topic PiMP is great for beginners up to professional 20+ rig farms like how Max is rolling Technology Farmer to the Max

That’s fine, I am no longer updating my miners as I cannot afford to run them until profitability is higher. PiMP looks like they are in active development, I don’t see anything wrong with using them.

Hey! Max thanks for posting this man 🙂

Can you shoot me your 280x R9 Graphic Card settings for mining X11/X13 coins?

I usually use I=13 (when mining scrypt w/280x) but i’m getting much higher hashrates with I=18

Let me know what your full config you’re running with on 280x cards.. thanks 🙂
